Our Story

Family foundations

We’re a family of few words. We’re builders and makers by trade. We prefer to get stuck in and do, than talk about what we’ve done.

It may surprise you to learn that our background is in construction. Although that probably explains why we’re always extending, moving and improving. We believe we can always do better.

And it seems lots of you are interested in how the Fig & Olive came about. So here’s our story…

Building a lifestyle

We discovered Coppice in 2012. A run-down garden centre built on former woodland, orginally called Newlands. With our roots in construction, we saw a challenge, and as a family, we saw the chance to build a lifestyle.

Much like the kitchen at home, the on site café quickly became the heart of the garden centre. So we ploughed all our efforts into creating the kind of warm and luxurious eatery where we would be comfortable going for all occasions, and where our team (our extended family) would feel at home. In 2014, The Fig & Olive was born.

During this same period we also gave the lifestyle area a complete overhaul, focusing on more inspirational products, better quality growers, fresher plants and outdoor living trends. Lifestyle became a destination in itself and the heart of our little village.

A growing family

Like any home, there’s always a project to be done. So, in 2018, we followed our foodie noses even further and added Forage into the mix to keep things fresh. Quite literally, it turns out, since Forage now supplies The Fig & Olive with fresh bread, cakes and meat every day.

During 2021 Coppice was proud to welcome new businesses on-site in the freshly completed extension within the centre. But we won’t stop there. We always like listen and learn and we’re constantly, tweaking, adjusting and upgrading. It’s who we are and how we like to do business.

We’re happiest when surrounded by family and friends with good food and a touch of interiors inspiration. We hope what we’ve built at Coppice will inspire your home, your garden and your conversations!

Planning has been obtained for further onsite facilities and retail space. We’re building an extension to house all-new concessions. We’ve recently broken ground and it’s all systems go. Don’t worry, we’re open as usual, so watch this space for more exciting news.
